Trip to Wales is a great success

Picture
21st June 2010

23 members and guests embarked on the trip to Wales, sponsored by Amadeus, with a great time had by all.

Golf was played over Holyhead and Carden Park golf courses. These proved to be two testing, yet fair, tracks.

Miss the fairway at Holyhead, and the gorse would get you, and a number of blind tee shots made for a nervous wait to see where your ball had settled.

Carden Park provided a magnificent setting for golf, and a number of very attractive golf holes.

Despite the difficulties facing the golfers, some terrific scores were recorded, all the more surprising on the second day, after many "dedicated" players remained discussing the challenge ahead into the small hours of the morning!!

Many new friendships were made, with members in particular having the opportunity to chat with other members that they would not normally have the chance to.

A huge thank you must go to Volker Lorenz, of Amadeus, who very kindly sponsored the event. Such support is invaluable, and it was a pleasure that Volker was also able to join us on the trip. A true gentleman, Volker has already indicated that he will be willing to sponsor the event next year.

Spanish Tourist Board Pro Am places

27th May 2010

Congratulations to Pam Fogarty, Philip Airey and Graham Aldren for winning the places on the TIGS pro am team for upcoming PGA events at Portmarnock or Seapoint.

Sincere thanks for the Spanish Tourist Board for putting up the prizes, and to all members who bought tickets, raising €505 for St Michaels House.

Great scores win at Palmerstown House Golf Club

27th May 2010

Our Presidents Prize saw Philip Airey and Emer Farrell victorious on another great day for golf.

41 points was more than enough for Philip to win by six from Joe Tully. A fantastic 3 over par 75, aided by 3 birdies proving more than enough.

Three straight pars saw Emer get off to a great start, and a birdie on the 17th ensured that a winning score would be carded, following her runners up spot last year.

The Spanish Tourist Board, sponsors of our Presidents Prize outing at Palmerstown Stud Golf Club, have offered TIGS a fantastic prize of 3 places at forthcoming Pro Am tournaments.

These will be raffled in aid of St Michaels House.

Winners will be able to choose to play at Portmarnock on 25th August or at the PGA Irish Championship at Seapoint in Drogheda on 22nd September.

Entry into the draw will be €5, with all the proceeds going to the charity.

The TIGS Committee would like to express our thanks to the Spanish Tourist Board for their kind offer.

Karen Keogh and Clem Walshe victorious at Druids Glen

Friday 23rd April 2010

On probably the best day for golf so far this year, warm sunshine with no wind, it was probably to be expected that an excellent score would be needed to take the spoils.

Stepping up to this expectation, in the Ladies competition was Karen Keogh, who carded a remarkable 40 points.

After a steady front nine of 19 points, the back nine started disappointingly with Karens second scratch of the day. A good recovery was sealed with a majestic 2 at the difficult par 3 17th, for a victory by a massive 8 points.

The Gents competition welcomed back Clem Walshe into the Society. Clem marked his return with a classy round of golf. Two birdies on the front nine contributed to a 2 over par 37 for 18 points. A spectacular 2 at the 12th, with the tee shot landing just 2" from the hole helped Clem record a further 20 points on the back nine. 38 points was enough to win by 3.

TIGS on tour in Wales

Picture
Wednesday 24th March

Dear TIGS Member

It gives me great pleasure to advise you that we have arranged a weekend golfing trip for TIGS members and guests to Wales on Friday 18th June.

The cost of this trip will be €196 per person based on twin sharing (€236 for guests). This price includes ferry ticket, all coach transfers, two rounds of golf, one lunch, two nights accommodation in a 4* Hotel on B+B basis and two evening meals. A limited number of single rooms are available at a supplement of EUR 16.50 per night.

I am delighted that our new sponsors, Amadeus, have kindly agreed to sponsor this outing.

As places are limited early booking is essential. A non-refundable deposit of EUR 100 is required to secure a place. A booking form is available from Graham Aldren.

I am sure that this trip will be a fantastic addition to our TIGS golfing calendar and I hope as many as possible of you will be able to support this outing and our new sponsor Amadeus.

Best regards,

Audrey Headon

Society Sweaters

Wednesday 17th February

For the 2010 season TIGS are proud to announce that a new Society Sweater is being produced. Many thanks to RCCL and Celebrity Cruises for their kind sponsorship of this promotion.

The jumper that we have selected is a Glenbrae Spirol V Neck. Full details of the product can be seen here.

TIGS is delighted to bring you these Society branded jumpers for an amazing price of €15.

Many of you who were at the Royal Dublin outing have already placed your order and we hope to have these available for collection at our first outing in Druids Glen.

If you have not yet placed your order, please do so by 26th February, as the order will be made to the suppliers at the end of the month. Please email Audrey Headon detailing your size. Please note that these are not overly generous sized sweaters, so please take this into account. If you can try on the brand at your local golf club, this would be helpful, as we are not able to exchange jumpers once ordered.

Looking forward to seeing you all in your new attire at Druids Glen.

Handicap System for 2010

Monday 15th February

As requested at the AGM 2009, the Committee have now considered all points raised with regard to the Handicap System for the coming season.

Therefore with effect from our first outing at Druids Glen in April, winners will carry points deductions for future events. These deductions will be as follows:

Overall Winner for Ladies & Gents = 2 point deduction from future outings
Category Prize Winner = 1 point deduction from future outings

Please note that these deductions will be made from the points total achieved in the future events. No change to the handicap will be made.

For the Captains Prize only, the overall winner of the Ladies & Gents competitions, will be decided without the imposition of any point deductions accrued.

Use of Range Finder devices

Monday 15th February

The Committee have agreed that the use of any such distance measuring devices ARE allowed during the course of our competitions.

Message from your Captain

Picture
Dear TIGS Member

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as this year’s Captain of TIGS.

The Committee and I have lined up some of the “old
favourites” to play again this year, namely Druids Glen, Palmerstown House, (formerly PGA National), Castle and Royal Dublin.

For my Captain’s Day you are invited to the venue for the Solheim Cup in 2011, Killeen Castle. This new course to our roster will be an amazing experience, and I would urge you all to put Thursday 9th September in your diaries now as a date not to be missed.

Following the success of our joint outing with STAGS, in 2009, we will be repeating the event, this year at The Heritage. An overnight stay is an optional, but recommended extra.
Dates of our outings.

This year I also hope to organize an overseas trip and my committee are currently looking at venues in Wales, for late June. Full details will be emailed out to you in the coming weeks, and early booking will be essential, as places will be limited.

As always, new members are very welcome, so if you know anyone interested in joining please let myself, or one of the committee know. I would also like to encourage, those members who have not been active in TIGS over the past few years, back into the fold.

Without the generosity of our sponsors the Society would not be the success it is. I would like to take this opportunity to thank most sincerely all of our sponsors for 2010, and ask you to support them at every opportunity.

Finally, I would like to thank you, the members of TIGS, for your wonderful support. I hope you all have a very successful 2010 both on and off the golf course.

See you at our first outing in Druids Glen on Thursday 22nd April.

Best regards
Audrey Headon
Captain
